Dr. Natalie Kanakam Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Natalie Kanakam is a highly experienced Chartered Clinical Psychologist and member of the British Psychological Society. She holds a first-class honours degree in Psychology BSc and earned her PhD in Psychological Medicine from the prestigious King’s College London, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. Over the course of her career, Dr. Natalie has held senior clinical and managerial positions within the NHS, currently serving as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Her clinical foundation was built at renowned institutions, including Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Maudsley Hospital.
In her therapeutic work, Dr Natalie is known for a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental approach. She utilises an integrative framework, expertly drawing from different therapy models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to meet the specific needs and goals of each client. Her practice is deeply collaborative, focusing on helping both adults and young people achieve meaningful, lasting change and enhanced psychological well-being.
Dr. Natalie’s clinical expertise is broad, working across all ages. She specialises in treating depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and stress, relationship difficulties and work-related issues as well as complex presentations such as emotional or, eating disorders, and body dysmorphic disorder. She also provides dedicated support for issues surrounding gender and sexuality. Beyond mental health, she has significant experience supporting those with physical health challenges, including chronic pain, cancer, and long-term health conditions. She is also highly skilled in diagnosing and supporting neurodiversity, including ADHD and autism.
In addition to her clinical (NHS) practice, Dr. Kanakam is a respected academic and contributor to the field, having held academic roles at UCL and King's College London and published research papers, book chapters and articles. She also shares her expertise with the wider public through various media publications.
